The Importance of Self-Care

You have probably heard the term ‘self-care’ at some point in your life. What does it really mean? Exactly what it sounds like: taking time to take care of yourself!

Self-care can take many forms. It could be finding time for reflective activities such as meditation or yoga. It can mean finding time to read a great book or treating yourself to a massage. Eating healthy meals and exercising are also great ways to take care of yourself. It can also be about setting boundaries with others and learning to say no.

When we get busy with work, parenting household projects, or just life in general, self-care is often one of the first things to come off the to-do list.

Self-care is so important for both physical and mental wellness, so how can you get more of it in your life?

  • Start small. Try starting with small increments of time such as 5-10 minutes per day and try to build from there.

  • Schedule it just like you would any other important appointment. Get it written into your planner or calendar or put a reminder in your phone.

  • Say no! It is okay and even healthy to say no to others in order to find time to take care of yourself!

  • Make yourself a priority! If you don’t take care of yourself first, how can you effectively help take care of others?

How will you be implementing more self-care into your own life?
